Quote of the Year…
If you’re a Pinterest Princess like me, when January rolls around—you become a Pinterest Queen.
It’s 2026! We have to have our vision boards! Images of things we want to do, places we want to go, and inspiration for the journey. And with that comes my mantra for the year:
“The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun.”- Phil Edwards.
Full disclosure: I do not surf…
However, this quote can apply to literally any sport, passion, hobby and is SO true! As artists, it's so easy to get trapped in a perfectionism paradox. We get stuck. We get art block. It happens.
But what is so beautiful about this quote is that it recognizes and gives permission for us to fail. Failing is part of growth and, for me especially, it can be tricky to remember that. When you spend hours on a painting, and it looks like your three-year-old niece stole your sketchbook, it can be a real confidence killer. Was all that time wasted? Nope.
Did you enjoy the process? Isn’t that why we fell in love with art in the first place? We had the freedom to explore, to build the worlds that were inside our head. Even if you didn’t enjoy the process, every mistake, was a learning opportunity— not a waste of time. Growth.
That’s what I love about this quote. Your outlook alters your experience and remembering that goes a long way.
Catch ya later,
